Bexley Blocked Sewer, Done Properly

1000+ five-star reviews

A blocked sewer rarely announces itself politely. It's usually every drain in the house at once, or a smell that gets worse by the hour.

Our local team is on-site in 30 minutes, guaranteed, and nothing starts until you've approved the price.

11+ Years, Family-Run

Sydney sewer lines have been our specialty for well over a decade.

What We Handle Under Blocked Sewer

A sewer blockage sits deeper in the system than a single fixture, and the work reflects that.

  • Whole-line CCTV inspection to find exactly where the blockage or damage sits
  • Root and debris clearing through the main sewer line, not just the nearest access point
  • Overflow relief gully checks, the grated drain outside that's meant to protect the house
  • Collapsed or misaligned pipe repair, including no-dig relining where the pipe allows it
  • Multi-fixture backups traced back to the one line causing all of them
  • Odour and gas-trap checks once the blockage clears, so nothing's left half-fixed

The overflow relief gully deserves its own mention. It's the grated fitting near the house that's designed to overflow outside rather than let sewage back up through your bathroom floor waste.

If you see it bubbling, that's the system doing its job, not a separate fault. Clearing the line behind it stops the gully needing to work at all.

When It Is Time for Blocked Sewer

A handful of signs separate a main-line problem from any one drain acting up.

  • More than one fixture gurgling or slow to empty in the same window
  • The shower or floor waste pushing water back up when anything else drains
  • A sewage smell that lingers regardless of which tap or toilet is used
  • The overflow relief gully outside bubbling or overflowing
  • A toilet that won't clear even after several flushes
  • Neighbours nearby reporting a similar backup within a day or two of yours

That last sign matters more than people expect. It's usually the clue to whose pipe the fault actually sits on, covered in the section below.

Can I Try to Clear It Myself First?

A plunger can shift a single blocked toilet, and there's no harm trying that on one fixture.

It does nothing for a sewer line problem. If more than one drain is affected, pushing harder with a plunger or pouring in chemical cleaner just wastes time before the real fix starts.

Holding off on taps and laundry until a plumber gets there is the one thing worth doing yourself. It stops more waste water adding to an already backed-up line.

Blocked Sewer in Bexley Homes

Aged clay drainage under Bexley's pre-war housing sags and collapses over time, trapping debris and causing repeat blockages. Streets like Bexley Road carry some of this older sewer stock, laid well before modern PVC became standard.

Clay pipe sections settle unevenly as the ground moves beneath them, which creates low spots where waste collects instead of flowing through. Once a section sags, it tends to keep collecting debris at the same point, which is why the same house can get repeat sewer call-outs years apart.

What Your Blocked Sewer Quote Depends On

A sewer quote moves on a few genuine factors, and we go through them with you before any price is fixed.

  • How far into the line the fault sits
  • Root intrusion versus a sagging joint versus a full collapse
  • Whether the fix is a clear, a reline, or a section replacement
  • Access via the boundary shaft versus digging closer to the house
  • One property affected versus a shared line serving several homes

A sagging clay joint under an older Bexley Road frontage often needs a slightly longer camera run to locate precisely, which we factor into the quote rather than guess at. Either way, the price is confirmed on-site before anything is agreed, with no call-out charge to get us there.

The Process, and What It Typically Takes

  1. We're there fast. On-site in 30 minutes, guaranteed, whatever time you call.
  2. Camera trace. A CCTV inspection through the sewer line confirms the exact cause.
  3. Clear or repair. Root and debris clearing, or relining and repair if the section has actually given way.
  4. Screen and sign-off. You watch the cleared line on the monitor before we consider the job done.

Most root or debris jobs don't eat up much of the day once we're on-site. A collapsed or badly damaged section changes that, and we flag it honestly before we start rather than after.

What NSW Requires for Blocked Sewer

A sewer line is licensed-trade territory under NSW law, full stop, and licence #275278C is the one we carry.

A house sewer splits into two ownership zones at one specific point: the boundary shaft, sometimes called the inspection shaft, usually sitting near the front boundary.

Everything on the house side of that shaft is the owner's pipe, and ours to repair. Past the shaft, toward the street, the pipe belongs to Sydney Water, and that section is theirs to maintain.

Telling the two apart usually comes down to who else is affected. One house backing up on its own almost always sits on the private side.

A different pattern shows up when the fault is on Sydney Water's side: sewage rising at the street itself, or two or three neighbouring homes reporting the same backup within days of each other.

We check for that pattern first. If the evidence points to Sydney Water's section, we won't pretend it's ours to price, and we point you to Sydney Water to log it straight away.

Why This Is a Job for Our Team

Sewer call-outs are usually the most urgent job in the house, and speed matters most on this one. Whatever the hour, a real person answers the phone, not a machine.

Every sewer job carries our lifetime labour warranty, so a returning fault costs you nothing to put right. We're proud to support RMHC Sydney, Beyond Blue, Wayside Chapel and Pink Ribbon Day in the same streets we work in.

Blocked Sewer Across Bexley and Surrounding Areas

A pipe that's actually failed, not just blocked, is what our blocked-drain-repair team handles, relining and structural work included. If it turns out to be one toilet rather than the whole line, start with our blocked-toilets page instead.

Sewer call-outs take us through Rockdale, Kingsgrove and Kogarah just as often as Bexley itself, right across the Bayside area.

Common questions

Common Blocked Sewer FAQs

What Bexley homeowners ask us most when a sewer line backs up.

How do I prepare before you arrive?

Stop using taps, toilets and the washing machine until we've cleared it, and keep pets and kids away from any overflow relief gully that's surcharging outside.

How long does a blocked sewer job take?

A straightforward root or debris clear is often sorted within a couple of hours. A collapsed section or a full relining job understandably takes more of the visit, and the camera footage settles which one you're dealing with.

What are the signs I need a blocked sewer service?

Multiple drains gurgling at once, sewage smells that won't go away, or water backing up through the lowest fixture in the house all point to the sewer line rather than one blocked pipe.

Will you show me proof the drain is clear?

Yes. Every sewer job finishes with a camera run back through the cleared line, so you can see it running freely rather than just take our word for it.

Do I need a licensed plumber for a blocked sewer?

Yes. Only a licensed plumber or drainer may legally touch sewer work in NSW, and we operate under licence #275278C.
